At ‘Screen Awards’ some images were delightfully shocking. For me Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan doing jhappi wasn’t a as big a deal as Jaya Bachchan admiring Rekha’s Kanjeevaram over small-talk and then going and giving Amitabh Bachchan a passionate smooch. Don’t know if the smooch was to make Rekha burn with envy or was purely a moment of passion. Jaya Bachchan was the last lady in B-town who I expected to smooch her hubby. She is the last person on earth from whom I expected a public display of affection (PDA). Whatever may be the reason but that smooch picture is definitely a one to treasure!

The famous stylist, Pernia Qureshi who her friends think posed a threat to Anaita Shroff, the most sought after stylist in Bollywood of her prima-donna status has turned designer and her friends who had the privilege of seeing her debut collection are going gaga over it. By the way Pernia also made a short film on fashion, is a muse to many a designer and occasionally models too!

As if Pernia’s fashion sense wasn’t enough to make Qureshi’s fashion label a must-have in a fashionista’s closet, her close friend Sonam Kapoor is the face of the brand. It was Pernia who widened Sonam Kapoor’s fashion horizon from Versace and Dolce to more esoteric labels like Maison Martin Margiela and Comme Des Garçons (though Ms. Kapoor had problems pronouncing the label correctly). Kebabs plus Butter-Chicken completes the story!

I am sure you must have spotted eunuchs soliciting on the streets of Delhi. Earlier they were spotted at Dhaula Kuan, in the dark kerbs near the AIIMS flyover or at the Moolchand crossing. These garishly dressed eunuchs (better known here as Hijras) usually catered to desperate auto-rickshaw drivers, truckers and wayward perverts. But recently I saw them at the Lodhi Road, bang opposite the luxury hotel – Aman. Just few days back to my utter surprise I saw a guy in a BMW stopping and negotiating with a eunuch out soliciting. No the guy in the Beamer wasn’t a driver but the owner as I managed to have a good look while passing by. Now I understand why eunuchs are lurking in the streets of posh Delhi.

Why would a well-off despo pick-up a street side eunuch hooker? These hijras are not the glamourous ‘ladyboy’ kinds you get to see in Bangkok and Pattaya. They were simply dirty.

Zohal Hamid accusing Royal Challengers Bangalore player Luke Pomersbach for molesting her and beating up her fiancee, Sahil Peerzada and Siddharth Mallya for defamation and then back-tracking on all the cases post Sahil’s release from the hospital is awfully irresponsible act and shouldn’t be pardoned. The reason behind the backtracking is the hidden skeletons in Sahil and Zohal’s closet and the blatant lies that Zohal blurted out in front of media to gain sympathy.

Zohal is from Afghanistan and first moved to India before migrating to US. She is not a jewellery designer. If she is anything, it can be best described as a gold-digger party girl harbouring lofty ambitions of making it in Bollywood. The claim that Sahil Peerzada is Zohal’s fiancee and that they have been dating for around 4-5 years is all but lies. Zohal was seeing a Delhi based guy – Basant Chawla who owns the Fun ‘N’ Food Village till beginning of 2011 and Sahil Peerzada was seeing Gauhar Khan and also made an appearance on the reality show – ‘The Khan Sisters’ six months back as Gauhar’s ex. Hence the story of Zohal and Sahid being dating since past 4-5 years is bull-crap. There are reports of Zohal Hamid divorcing her American husband who paid US Dollars 200,000 as settlement.

Why were Sahil Peerzada and Zohal were staying in a room booked under Deccan Challengers? Well the answer is that he is the front-man of some investment made by a big-shot in Deccan Chargers Team. The story that Luke Pomersbach followed Zohal and Sahil to their room for a drink isn’t the fact. In fact they went there to ‘Powder his Noses’! What followed was euphoric and aggressive moments and fist-fight.

Sahil (whose real name is Sajjid) Peerzada who likes to hang around with his Bollywood friends was totally against any case against RCB Player as he did not want to get on the wrong-side of the Mallyas who have considerable clout in B-Town. Also he knew that if the case of molestation and fight and defamation are pursued lot of skeletons will roll out from his closet. And he cared a damn if Zohal’s character was assasinated or defamed. They have no right to waste the precious time the Police and The Courts.

The Private Equity (PE) arm of  Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton – L Capital with Ravi Thakran at the helm of affairs gave a lot of hope to the Indian Fashion Fraternity to see ‘corporatisation’ of Indian Fashion Industry. Ravi Thakran being an Indian led the Desi fash-frat to unjustifiably believe that L Capital with a corpus fund of $ 650 Million would really see some huge investment in Indian Designer Labels. But as I mentioned – it was an‘unjustifiable’ expectation.

L Capital heavily invested in Genesis Luxury and took 25.5% stake in the company. Here I must say that Sanjay Kapoor of Genesis Luxury who is a former banker must have used his financial expertise to secure that huge chunk of investment from L Capital. Other brand where L Capital picked up stakes was Fabindia – L Capital holds 8% stake.

Finally L Capital turned its focus to the niche segment of Indian designer-wear. The reports of L Capital investing in Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi Mukherjee and in multi-designer retail chain – Evoluzione still stands unconfirmed. The talks are in final stages is what we still hear. This news sparked off various unconfirmed reports that Sabyasachi’s brand has been valued much higher than that of Rohit Bal’s and why Evoluzione and why not Ensemble. Ravi Thakran and Rohit Bal are old friends and when Thakran was heading Omega Watches, he sponsored a grand show of Bal’s at the American Ambassador’s (The Lundquists!) residence where Shahrukh Khan was the show-stopper. Murmurs of L Capital investing in Rohit Bal because Thakran and Bal are buddies had been floating but I personally discount it as gossip as PE firm of L Capital’s stature don’t do business on the basis of friendship. Gossip on why Evoluzione and why not Ensemble has many conspiracy theories.

But it’s high time L Capital comes out with a status report on what’s happening with the investments in Rohit Bal, Sabysachi Mukherjee and Evoluzione. Also how significant is the news that L Capital is planning to replicate the LVMH model in India? This is what I am reading -  “Along with consolidating their separate labels under a single corporate structure, each of them will get a chance to scale up and reach domestic as well as global markets. L Capital plans to invest close to Rs 200 crores in the venture, which is being planned as a company that will own significant minority stakes in the design houses of these well-known designers and will forge a joint venture with Evoluzione for back-end distribution business. Gradually, more known designers will be brought on board to expand the business horizons.” Well if this happens I feel it is something the Indian designers always needed and it will definitely be an impetus to the desi designers.  If LVMH-type structure comes up in India, it would definitely assist in consolidating and projecting Indian fashion to the world, besides helping brands with marketing, retailing and identifying suitable real estate to increase scale, pare costs, improve operating efficiency and boost profits.

By the way – L Capital recently invested Rs 108 crores in PVR Cinemas! So is Bollywood next on L Capital’s  Agenda???

Aishwarya Rai and Erin Heatherton lend their voices at the United Nations 2012 Every Woman Every Child Dinner held at The Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday (September 25) in New York City. The 38-year-old Bollywood actress and Erin, 23, were joined by Smash actress Debra Messing and Shaquille O’Neal at the charity event. Aishwarya was recently named the UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador and her role will be mainly to advocate the Global Plan, aiming to eliminate new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keep their mothers alive.

US Media wondered what was all the hullabaloo about Aishwarya’s weight – “Indian critics and bloggers went f—king crazy criticizing Aish for not losing her postpartum baby weight soon enough. There were some in India who felt that Aishwarya was ‘letting her people down’ by not getting back to her old figure soon enough. Rai appeared at the Cannes Film Festival one week later, and she still looked magnificent”, wrote a popular website.

Yet another online magazine commented – “As you can see in these photos, Rai is still gorgeous, and she still a voluptuous woman. That’s all I really have to say – she looks great. I wouldn’t mind if she changed up her style a bit, but maybe she feels like she has to wear more traditional Indian clothing when she’s overseas, like she’s a representative of Indian style.”

Yes the scarlet ‘Lehenga-Gown’ by Sabyasachi Mukherjee did make Aishwarya Rai look a bit matrontly. She is consciously opting for such silhouettes to conceal the bumps and flabs. A reader rightly pointed out – “She (Aish) isn’t that fat, but unfortunately her neck is. Those rings of fat are what make her look awful. Shalini and Sanjay Passi’s bash on Friday night for Cavalli had many whimpers claiming it to be ‘not happening’. The after-party on Saturday night at the Blue Bar was too crowded and B-Town faces put -up their snooty behaviour like anything.

If 2012 was a great year for the Indian Movie Industry aka Bollywood, what with films setting new Box Office records by grossing over Rs.100 Crores, Rs. 200 Crores and out-of-the-box movies like Barfi, Kahani and Gangs of Wasseypur not only getting critical acclaim but turning to be a hit at the Box Office too.

But 2013 has started on a somber note for Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt was convicted by Supreme Court in the 1993 Mumbai Blast Case and was sentenced to 5-years imprisonment. Today the age-old Black-Buck case in Jodhpur that had indicted Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Sonali Bendre and Tabu will be heard in the court and possible judgement would be pronounced. Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case is still sub-judice and he has a new case to deal with where fishermen have accused Salman Khan and his bodyguards of manhandling, threatening and causing damage to property. This small fishermen’s colony is just opposite the new bungalow that Sallu bhai has purchased.

Then we have Preity Zinta’s run-in with the Enforcement Directorate who recently probed her on the source of funds that she had invested in her IPL Team. Of course there are zillion of unverified reports of fimstars’ run-in with the law. Like recently it was reported that Saif Ali Khan manhandled a CISF man who asked him to vacate the VIP Lounge at the Lucknow Airport or Bipasha Basu being stopped at the Customs for carrying in undeclared valuables…

I think as we celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema, all the pending cases against our film stars should come to conclusion. It would be ideal way to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema.

I was rather shocked to see the images of pop-star Lady Gaga on a LV wheelchair in Chicago the past week. Gaga has been confined to a wheelchair since February this year, when she suffered a labral tear in her hip that caused her to abandon the remaining U.S. dates of her Born This Way Ball tour.

By the way Lady Gaga earlier spun around in a custom 24-carat-gold Mordekai wheelchair designed by Ken Borochov.

Woh…I am amazed by things celebrities do to stand-out and how the luxury brands are there to cater to all their needs. I am sure next time a Bollywood star breaks a leg or a hip, he/she will not be caught dead in a regular wheelchair or crutches!

Latest Bollywood entrant and star-daughter, Shraddha Kapoor recently had a fashion faux-pas moment. At a function, Shraddha wore a black sequined short dress and flesh-toned knickers. Couldn’t really understand the colour choice for the underwear. Wouldn’t black been the apt colour??? Anyway wearing contrast colour panty was a hidden fashion blunder on Shraddha Kapoor’s part but flashing them while sitting definitely was a blatant fashion faux-pas. I fail to understand why can’t they sit ‘propah’ while wearing a short dress.

My dearest Preity Zinta has been busy with IPL and is judiciously present at all the King’s XI Punjab’s matches. She relegiously dons custom-made Kings XI logoed tops and salwar-kameezs. But at one of the recent matches I discovered that PZ has let her belly grow. Must be relieved after PVR agreed to distribute her Ishq In Paris, Preity must be indulging in Punjab’s butter-chicken and dal-makhani. In the picture here PZ’s belly-bulge is very prominent. Poor girl wasn’t aware of the camera on her or else she would had taken a deep breath and sucked in her tummy.

Cannes 2013 is on and this year the festival will see the largest contingent from Bollywood as Cannes is celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema. Bollywood stars who have already landed at the French Riviera are Amitabh Bachchan as the 12-Day Cannes Film Festival opened with the screening of The Great Gatsby, Vidya Balan who is part of the illustrious jury, the lovely Frieda Pinto and Sonam Kapoor who is there as one of the Brand Ambassadress for L’Oreal.

Cannes Film Festival is keenly watched by fashionistas to dwell over the style quotient of divas from the celluloid. Vidya Balan made three appearances, all in traditional Indian wear by Sabyasachi Mukherjee – one in a maroon lehenga (I particularly loved the simple Choli bereft of any gaudy embellishment), another in a lovely ivory saree paired with a brown blouse with gold embroidery on the shoulders and a final one in a peach coloured lehenga-styled in Mughal regality for the Gatsby screening. The final look was a little OTT for me.

Big B made a couple of appearances. The sporty/safari jacket that Bachchan donned was out of place. Rest of the Gatsby team were dressed up in greys and blacks. Bachchan’s striped blue Safari jacket and white pants and shoes did not compliment his natural style. And gawd that belt at the waist was a disaster. At The Great Gatsby screening Amitabh Bachchan was again the odd one out in his shimmering BLINGY jacket. Could have gone for a Bandhgala with sober embellishment if he wanted BLING.

Sonam Kapoor please apna Nath utaar do. (No pun intended! Nath Utaarna also means losing virginity, which I am sure Sonam’s done with.) Our stylish diva too opted for an off-white saree (Anamika I think) with a lattice work full-sleeve jacket for Gatsby screening but that huge nose ring was definitely an eye sore. Another appearance in a scalloped  Anamika Khanna jacket with lattice work paired over high-waist pants was chic. She was also spotted with Frieda Pinto in a black and grey ensemble was nice too but I have my reservations over wether those gold danglers went with the look.

Oh yes Mallika Sherawat too was there at The Great Gatsby screening in an yellowish-orange sleeveless gown. Thank god there wasn’t any slits or sheerness or cleavage revealing elements in her ensemble.

It’s not been a fortnight since actor and Bollywood star – Sanjay Dutt went to jail that we see two more B-Town folks on the wrong side of the law. Vindoo Dara Singh is in police custody for the murky IPL spot-fixing and betting case and the starlet Sana Khan – whose career hasn’t even taken off – is on the run.

Sana Khan has been declared absconding after she was charged with alleged attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl for rejecting her cousin, Naved’s marriage proposal. Navi Mumbai Police have already arrested four persons – Sana’s cousin Naved Khan (22) and his three friends Kshitij Dubey (22) and Vismit Ambre (23) and a 17-year-old boy minor – in the case.

Hunt is on to trace the 25-year-old actress. 

Thanks to Salman Khan and Big Boss, Sana Khan got a role in Mental, a Sohail Khan movie starring Salman Khan. The movie is under production and is stalled now since Sana is on the run. I fail to understand why Bollywood walas are so callous about law??? Do they think that they are too influential or powerful that they are beyond law? NO WAY! Sanju Baba and Vindoo has learnt the hard way and now it is Sana’s turn.

Bollywood actor Jiah Khan committed suicide in her Juhu flat on Monday night at 11 pm. The reason of her suicide is still unknown. Preliminary reports suggest that Jiah committed suicide though the cause of her death is still unconfirmed. Dia Mirza reportedly broke the news of Jiah’s death on micro blogging site Twitter.

Also known by the name Nafisa Khan, Jiah made her Hindi film debut in 2007 opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial Nishabd. The following year, Jiah went on to appear in the commercially successful Ghajini with Aamir Khan. The actress was last seen in Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer Housefull in 2010. Reacting to the shocking news of Jiah Khan’s suicide, Amitabh Bachchan Tweeted:
